Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Work safely
   • Established safety procedures are followed when conducting work
   • Work for which personal protective equipment (PPE) is required is identified
   • PPE is used, maintained and stored according to workplace procedures
   • Safety checks on all equipment and machinery are undertaken before operation according to workplace procedures
   • Hazardous chemicals are identified and handled according to workplace procedures
   • Safe manual handling techniques are used when conducting work
   • Worker or employee responsibilities prescribed in WHS/OHS legislation are recognised and carried out
2. Recognise safety management system requirements
   • WHS/OHS responsibilities and duties are identified and accountability processes are outlined
3. WHS/OHS policies and procedures are accessed and reviewed, and clarification is sought where necessary
4. Implications of changes to the safety management system (SMS) are identified and addressed
5. Records are accurately completed
   • Established safety procedures are followed when conducting work

18. Ideas are provided to control the level of risk associated with work tasks
19. Follow emergency procedures
    • Emergency incidents are identified and reported
20. Emergency procedures are followed in responding to emergency incidents
21. Emergency equipment is used in responding to emergency incidents
22. Appropriate personnel are notified according to workplace procedures
